Orh Nee Basque Cheesecake
A famously effort-intensive delicacy, yet simply irreplaceable to true fans – Orh Nee is rich yet un-jelak, delightfully sweet yet not sugary. Julene brought the essence of these unique qualities of traditional Orh Nee into the Cheesecake. It is made out of a taro-infused batter atop a textured base of fresh taro bits and puree, baked to that signature semi-melt perfection. A single mouthful is a journey in itself, just unbelievably yummy at every stop of the way!
It is the brainchild of homebaker-owner Julene, who wanted to create a Singapore-inspired version of her burnt cheesecake for National Day 2021.
Leaning towards the sweeter side, it wasn’t as salty as some burnt cheesecakes are. The burnt top also had a slight tanginess which helped to balance the flavour. It had a prominent taste, texture and fragrance of sweet yam which complemented the cream cheese well!
